Minerals Needed for Heart Health

Magnesium plays an essential role in protecting the body from heart complications. Since Magnesium runs the sodium potassium pump (blood pressure) if you are deficient in it it may cause hypertension and an accumulation of calcium and sodium. Supplementation of magnesium has also been found to reduce cardiac arrhythmias.

Potassium: Controls the heartbeat and muscle function along with preventing strokes, hypertension and heart disease. It also allows the body to regulate and utilize sodium levels. If you are sensitive to high levels of sodium you may need more potassium and magnesium.

Zinc regulates heart muscle and cardiac function. Heart failure is related to low levels of zinc, selenium, and copper. In a recent AREDS study zinc and copper supplementation reduced mortality by 27%.
